Neuropsychology is the study of the relationship between the brain and behaviour. The evaluations are comprehensive and address both cognitive and character-related aspects of an individual. Assessments provide a diagnosis regarding the individual’s level of cognitive and emotional function and a medical-legal opinion regarding SABS (Statutory Accident Benefits), long-term disability and specific legal questions.
Neuropsychological evaluations are traditionally used to diagnose a suspected brain injury that may be due to physical trauma or disease and to provide treatment recommendations. However, Neuropsychological evaluations are also used to provide a comprehensive behavioural data set for individuals suffering from depression or anxiety or other psychiatric illness in the context of long term disability or motor vehicle accident files. In this way, Neuropsychological evaluations are particularly useful to help determine an individual’s response to treatment over time and to identify potential obstacles to treatment.
