Dr. Pink has been in private practice as a psychologist since 1988, after earning her Ph.D. (Clinical Psychology) at the University of Ottawa. She is licensed by the College of Psychologists of Ontario and is a registered member of the Canadian Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology. Dr. Pink acts as Supervising Psychologist for psychologist candidates for licensing with the College of Psychologists of Ontario.
Dr. Pink has worked as Assistant Professor at St. Paul University, Pastoral Institute, teaching psychological theory and conducting clinical training and supervision of students. She was employed as a Counsellor with Algonquin College and has experience with disadvantaged clients through her work there and earlier employment as a Social Worker and Home Economist with the Regional Municipality of Ottawa-Carleton. In each setting Dr. Pink enjoyed designing and teaching continuing education workshops for her colleagues in the mental health profession.
In private practice, Dr. Pink sees adults having a wide range of concerns. Her areas of special interest include depression, anxiety, women’s issues, trauma, lesbian and gay issues, adult development, transitions of adult life, issues of self and identity, and spirituality. Dr. Pink also works with individuals living with separation, divorce, co-parenting and blended families. She sees same-sex couples with relationship concerns. Dr. Pink and Gilmour Psychological Services partner, Dr. Frances Smyth, offer a special service to couples and families for whom sexual orientation has presented problems or challenges.
Dr. Pink has completed Level I training in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) treatment of trauma. This therapeutic technique is available for clients when a formal assessment indicates it would be beneficial.
Dr. Pink’s therapeutic approach is based in humanistic/existential and feminist thought, and incorporates cognitive/behavioural and self-psychologies. She works in a wholistic manner, respecting and using therapeutically, the wisdom and experiences of the mind, emotions, body and spirit. With all clients, Dr. Pink works collaboratively to establish a therapeutic program to meet individual needs and goals. She strives to bring the best scientific knowledge and a compassionate approach to help clients live effectively in the present.
Dr. Pink also works in conjunction with physicians and complementary health care providers such as massage therapists, physiotherapists, naturopaths and body-work therapists.
Dr. Pink maintains memberships in local, provincial, national and international professional organizations. She participates in continuing education programs through conferences and workshops, ensuring provision of the best current and effective services to her clients.
